Getting Here

The workshop is easily accessible by car, public transport or taxi.

From the City:
If you are travelling to the workshop from the CBD, the 109 and 48 Trams will take you right to our front door. Both trams can be boarded from just outside Flinders St. Station.
We are also within walking distance from Hawthorn train station, which is on the Belgrave or Lilydale lines and can be boarded at any station on the City Loop.
Taxis can easily be caught from anywhere within the CBD. You will find taxi ranks outside Flinders St. Station and The Arts Centre.

From the Airport: Melbourne Airport is located in Tullamarine along the Tullamarine Freeway. A taxi from the airport to the workshop will cost approx $45. You also have the option of catching the Skybus shuttle which will take you to Spencer St. Station in the CBD.

If you are thinking of taking one of our instruments home, remember that different airlines will have different policies regarding taking instruments on planes. You should always check with the airline before you travel. You will also need a good quality flight case to protect your double bass. You may like to bring your own, or purchase one from us.

Parking: There is ample parking available on the side streets surrounding the workshop (2 hours). There is also limited parking on Church St, but please check the signage.

Taxis: The taxi hotline for Melbourne is 13CABS. You may wish to ask for a maxi-cab or a station wagon if you are travelling with a bass. The Wheelchair Taxi (Maxi-cab) direct line is 9277 3877.

Travelling with a Double Bass:
You will be able to travel with your double bass on Melbourne trains and trams, although you may experience difficulty during peak hour. However many trams will have steps leading up to the doorways, so please take note if you struggle to carry your instrument. Newer trams in Melbourne have lowered floors and larger doorways, allowing you to travel with your double bass more easily.

In the CBD: There are many other great places to stay in the city, at a range of prices. Accommodation is also found along St. Kilda Road, in St. Kilda and South Yarra, and north of the city in North Melbourne and Fitzroy.

In the Area: The closest accommodation to the workshop can be found along Bridge Rd/Burwood Rd. Try the Elgin Inn, the Amora Hotel or even the Glenferrie Hotel, also a popular Pub and Restaurant. For serviced appartments try Quest Apartments on Glenferrie Rd.

Pathfinder Motel Kew Just a tram ride away or short drive.

While You're Here

Concerts and shows: As a musician, there are plenty of exciting venues where you can experience the Melbourne music scene.

The Arts Centre and the Recital Centre, both in the Southbank area, host many events including theatre, classical music and a wide variety of other styles of music and entertainment. Both have Box Offices at the venue where you can purchase tickets.

For top young classical musicians, ANAM: Australian National Academy of Music is a great space in South Melbourne, for concerts, masterclasses and recitals.

For players interested in jazz or pop music, Melbourne's CBD and inner suburbs host an exciting music scene which we'd urge you to explore while you're here visiting the workshop. Dizzy's Jazz Club is also another great venue, which is just a short walk away on Swan St, Richmond. You might also like to check out the Fitzroy area, where venues like the Uptown Jazz Cafe and many others have gigs on every day of the week.

Have a look at:

Arts Centre Melbourne

Melbourne Recital Centre

The Jazzlab

Birds Basement  Great Dinner and Jazz!

Eating and Drinking: Melbourne is famous for its cafe culture and nightlife, so while you're here try our great coffee, or have a night out with a gig and some drinks at one of the many venues in the CBD. The workshop is situated in a short shopping strip on Church Street with cafes that offer great coffee and food.
